Marco Durante

Marco Durante (Sanremo, 24 October 1962) is an Italian Golfer.
== Bio ==

He is introduced to golf in 1969 under the guide of Franco Zanini in Garlenda, Italy. He wins his first Italian title in the Second Category National Championship in 1976. In 1977 makes his debut in the Amateur National Team at the Juniores European Championship in Oslo, and he will be part of the team until the end of 1987, taking part to 9 European Championships, to the Pinehurst World Championship (USA, 1980), to the University World Championship in Is Molas (ITA), where his team won the tournament and he placed 4th individually.
In his amateur career the most important achievement is the first place at the Miami Orange Bowl (USA, 1979), he had been the first non American player to win the title; with him, among others, Mark Calcavecchia, Tiger Woods and Camilo Villegas won the title. Other noteworthy achievements are the Aer Lingus Trophy in Dublin (1981), with the course record at the Royal Dublin G.C. (65, -8); the Swiss International Championship after beating François Illouz at playoff (Cologny, 1987); seven Italian Titles, including the Medal National Championship with the course record of 70 (3 under par) at G.C. Le Betulle in Biella (1981) and the Italian International Championship, after playoff against Craig Francis (Pevero G.C., 1981).
He had been called seven times in the European Team in the match GB & Ireland v. Continent of Europe (J. Leglise Trophy - Boys, 1977, ‘78, ‘79 and ‘80; Juniores, 1980; St. Andrews' Trophy - Amateur, 1980). In 1977 stars in the first continental team which defeated the British Islands on their course (Dundee, 1977), the success has been repeated in 1980 by the Juniores team in Lund, Sweden.
At the end of 1987 turns pro, joining the National Team of which he will be part of until 1999.
As pro he won the Triconfort Open (Challenge Tour; France 1989) and the Città di Fiuggi Trophy (ITA, 1990); he represented Italy at the Dunhill Cup in Taiwan (1993), he came second at the Italian Omnium Championship (1990), at the Italian Match-play Championship (1990) and at the PGAI Championship (1991). With Andrea Canessa he won the Italian PGA Double Championship (1998).
At the end of his professional career he turn to sport management: councillor of the Italian Golf Federation (FIG) since 2001 (reconfirmed for the four-year term 2013 – 2016), supervisor of the Technic Professional Branch since 2002 and representative of the Legal Affairs Committee; councillor of the Italian PGA (from 1988 to March 2013); National Councillor of CONI since 2005 (reconfirmed for the four-year term 2013 – 2016); Vice President of National Athletes Committee for the four-year term 2009 – 2012; President of National Athletes Committee for the four-year term 2013 – 2016.
Special Commissioner of the Italian Twirling Federation (March – June 2013), torchbearer at the Winter Olympic Games in Turin 2006. He won the Bronze Badge of Athletic Honour (1981) and the Gold Star to Sporting Merit (2005).
